Taras Chmut, head of Ukraine’s largest charity foundation, Come Back Alive, said that at least four leading Ukrainian drone companies have moved their production abroad and have no plans to return.
Why did Ukrainian drone manufacturers move abroad?
Taras Chmut explained that these companies are now working within the framework of NATO equipment production, which was improved during the war with Russia. This allows them to produce cheaper and better equipment, which is in high demand.
Chmut also noted that the relocation was due to the inability to make such sales from Ukraine. If there are no export opportunities, the number of such companies will only grow. Although officially it can be presented as a step to ensure production safety or simplify logistics, the main reason, he said, is the desire of businesses to make money.
The domestic market is limited and difficult, while the foreign market, while not easier, offers much higher profits. For example, a drone system that costs $220,000 in Ukraine can sell for $500,000 abroad.
