Due to the difficult situation in Ukraine, Berlin wants to supply more weapons by the end of the year. According to SPIEGEL, it is about Marder armored personnel carriers, ammunition and drones.
The German government has announced a new aid package for Ukraine, which includes, among other things, the following:
- 22 Leopard tanks;
- 22 armored MRAP vehicles;
- five Bandvagn tracked all-terrain vehicles and one Warthog;
- three Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft artillery systems;
- 61,000 155-mm artillery rounds; 1 million rounds of ammunition for small arms;
- 12 self-propelled howitzers PzH 2000;
- radars; drones of various modifications, etc.
The German government plans to supply Ukraine with another €1.4 billion package of weapons by the end of the year, despite the fact that the budget for military support for Kyiv (€8 billion) has already been largely exhausted. The 50 planned individual items include a package of ammunition for Gepard anti-aircraft guns, another 20 Marder infantry fighting vehicles, and numerous reconnaissance and attack UAVs.
An additional €397 million came from energy cost savings for the Bundeswehr. And Germany raised €1 billion from partners in Europe and around the world to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense.
