U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance called Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s accusations “absurd.”

U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance called Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s accusations “absurd.”

This was reported on Tuesday, April 15, by Reuters, citing that Vance once again criticized the Ukrainian leader.

In response to recent comments by the President of Ukraine suggesting that he somehow justified Russia’s full-scale military invasion of Ukraine, Vance stated that he has condemned Moscow since 2022, but has also tried to understand the strategic goals of both sides in order to find a solution.

According to Vance, this does not mean morally supporting Russia or endorsing the invasion. However, the U.S. Vice President added, one must try to understand where “their strategic red lines” are.

He also said it is necessary to “try to understand what the Ukrainians are trying to achieve in this conflict.”

“I think it’s kind of absurd for Zelenskyy to tell the [U.S.] government, which is currently supporting his government’s and military’s efforts, that we are somehow on Russia’s side,” Vance said.

He also added that such rhetoric is “definitely unproductive.”

Recently, in an interview with CBS News, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance is essentially justifying the actions of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

The President of Ukraine expressed the opinion that parts of the United States are under the influence of Russian propaganda, and that some politicians still believe Russia is not the aggressor and did not start the war against Ukraine.

“This is a change of tone, a change of reality — really, a change of reality — and I don’t want to participate in that altered reality that’s being presented to me,” the President said.

Zelenskyy also emphasized that Ukraine did not attack anyone, and that Vance is trying to justify Russia.

“It seems to me that the Vice President is, in some way, justifying Putin’s actions. I tried to explain: you can’t look for something in between. There is an aggressor and there is a victim. The Russians are the aggressor, and we are the victim,” the Ukrainian President said.
