Minister for Strategic Industries Herman Smetanin stated that in 2023, Ukraine significantly expanded its weapons production.

Two years ago, the country was producing only one type of cruise missile — the “Neptune” — but last year saw the emergence of many new products, leading to a 700% increase in production volume compared to 2023.

According to him, by the end of 2024, Ukraine had developed 324 new types of weaponry worth a total of $9 billion. The production of long-range drones also rose by more than 100% compared to 2023, and by 2100% compared to 2022. The defense industry contributed to 33% of Ukraine’s GDP growth last year. Overall, the defense sector increased its capacity by 600%, reaching $20 billion. The minister noted that by the end of this year, the Ministry of Strategic Industries will be capable of producing up to $35 billion worth of weapons and military equipment domestically.

Oleksandr Kamyshin, the President’s Advisor on Strategic Industries, added that, according to various estimates, 30% to 40% of the equipment used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine is now produced within the country. This highlights the critical role of Ukraine’s domestic defense production in both national security and economic resilience during wartime.
